1947 Dec 27 - Esp in Rome, Prague, Paris, N.Y.

Esperanza is in Rome. She is going to Prague for two weeks, then she is going to Paris for two days, then taking a plane for New York. It saddens her that Henry will not be there to meet her. She will wait for him in New York until he returns. He is going with Pete somewhere. Pete is mentioned in another letter as the guy who has an invention to find a cartload of gold. Esp is apologizing for some uncomfortable dealings she has already had with Pete and his wife. Esp is trying to arrange to stay at his apartment in New York but it sounds like Henry has plans at the same time to travel perhaps through Paris. Henry has his plans and she has her plans.

If she arrived in New York Jan 14 or 15, 1948, the movie premiere of Treasure was in New York on the 24th.

This letter was found loose with no envelope in a sack with pictures.

Yo, afortunadamente, no me mareo nunca.

Esperanza

Rome - Dec 27, 1947
* I will be in Prague from Dec. 29 to Jan. 11,
when I will return to Paris

Dear Henni:

I received your letter. I hope it will reach you in time, because I will be in Paris only 2 days, from the 12th to the 14th of January; I will stay at the "Hotel Paris", Boulevard de la Madelaine. On the 14th at 17.30 I will leave the gare des Invalides (Invalides statíon) for the Bourget airport where I will take my plane back to New York. Life here is very expensive, so I will wait for you in New York as long as I can afford it. I hope your first trip goes well and that we can see each other in Paris. The thought of arriving in New York and not meeting you makes me very sad. Anyway, no need to think ahead, when we can hardly know what will happen tomorrow. I am comforted by the idea that Pete will ship with you, so you won't be alone. Tell Pete and his wife to forgive me, that dealing with unfamiliar people is very difficult for me and that in those days, I was in one of my serious moments of introversion. I hope you don't get too dizzy. I, fortunately, never get dizzy. Henni, if I don't find you in N.Y., get the lock on the apartment fixed. How much I would like to meet you in Paris, so only 20 days would separate us!

With love as always.

Esperanza
